Colorful Recycled Plastic
If you have been following me for very long, you know that I love to repurpose and use found objects in my art (jewelry). I am a metalsmith, trained to work with sterling silver, copper and brass. I often think I should only work with those materials. The fact is that humble materials and discarded items are often the catalyst for my design ideas. And it turns out that the same tools and techniques used for metal can also be used on plastic. I use a metal punch to cut out the circles and metal shears for other shapes.
My latest passion is from colorful plastic. Up until now, these pieces have been mostly black and white, but suddenly I have noticed food container lids in lots of summer shades like blue, green and aqua. The finished pieces have a playful but elegant retro vibe.
You can express yourself with these statement pieces. The statement is, “Keep plastic out of the waste stream. Reuse and repurpose. Avoid global warming.”
