Royal Jewels on Display

There is a fascinating new exhibition at Kensington Palace showcasing the jewelry that belonged to Queen Victoria and her granddaughter, Princess Louise.  The highlight of the “Victoria Revealed” exhibit is a diamond and emerald tiara given to Victoria by her doting and beloved husband, Prince Albert. Fun facts about The Victoria Tiaras:

• The diamond and emerald tiara was designed by Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert. In fact, he designed several other tiaras for her. She praised his good taste in her journal.

• This is the only tiara designed for a queen by her consort.

• Until now, the diamond and emerald tiara hasn't been seen in public since 1960.

• Diamonds in the Fife tiara are set using invisible settings, a breakthrough at the time.

• Another diamond tiara in the exhibition, the kokoshnik tiara is designed to also be worn as a necklace.

• Important Royal Tiaras like these are rare because they were often dismantled to make more modern pieces of jewelry.
